Dealing with Anxiety Attacks
Dealing with anxiety attacks isn’t something I had every anticipated having to face in my life. As a wife and a mother I had roles that I took very
seriously. I wanted my family to be very happy and that meant taking them to do things and to be a part of their life on many levels. However, when my son was playing football I suffered a severe anxiety attack that left me shaky and very upset. I couldn’t shake my fear that there was something wrong with me or that it would happen again.

I wasn’t forthcoming about what had happened for a very long time. I didn’t even tell my husband who I had always confided in. I didn’t want it to seem like I wouldn’t be able to continue taking on my role. I didn’t want him to tell the kids they needed to cut back on their activities to give me a break. I guess you could say I was feeling guilty about all of it and very ashamed.
However, dealing with anxiety attacks means that you do address the problem head on. I wish I had done so from the very start. I didn’t know at that point that millions of people suffer from the same problem that I do. I felt so isolated and alone that I didn’t know what to do but to ignore the problem and hope it went away just as quickly as it had come on. It didn’t work that way though so I had to find ways of dealing with anxiety attacks.
I found that getting support was very important. When I did tell my husband and a few close friends what had happened and that I was having anxiety attacks more often they were understanding to a point. I guess that they didn’t fully understand the situation even though I tried to explain it as best that I could. I found the best support though online talking with a group of people that were also learning ways of dealing with anxiety attacks. I found those interactions to give me strength when I was ready to give up.
I wish I could say that dealing with anxiety attacks has been an easy process. It does take time to find the confidence to fight them. For me, understanding what anxiety attacks are and how they affect people was a good place to start. The more information you have the better line of defense you can develop. There are many different methods you can use for dealing with anxiety attacks.
However, you need to continue to look for those that are going to help you personally. When it comes to dealing with anxiety attacks we all respond differently. I found lots of great methods online but not all of them helped me with the problem. I focused on those that deal and pushed the others aside after giving them a fair try. It can be a hard road but you will find that dealing with anxiety attacks does allow you to get back on track. It will enable you to focus on the good things in your life.
